studio weekend

I just spent most of the weekend in a recording studio working on the highly ridiculous (and somewhat offensive) Jack Cass and his Cow Mountin’ Boys album. I enjoyed the process and really got in touch with how much I love to drum and how much I enjoy comedy.

It really is clever and hilarious. I’ll share some sounds after the final touches….

as seen on TeeVee

My friend Dawn is an amazing juggler and specializes in contact juggling, which involves rolling the ball around on one’s body, moving around the ball while it appears to be still, and other tricks. I’ve seen her grow and develop her art over the last 6 or 7 years and what she can do came from many many many hours of practice.

She’s pretty angry about commercials for the Fushigi ball, which are currently airing on television. It shows people contact juggling an acrylic ball with a metal centre and makes it appear as if the ball has magical qualities which allow anyone to do these tricks instantly.

The commercial is ridiculous (cheese-tarded might be a better term) and reminds me of the Happy Fun Ball from 1990’s Saturday Night Live.

Here’s her cute and funny video responding to the thing:

Hopefully this will end up being good publicity for her.

fun with Canadian money

There’s a new Facebook group that encourages Canadians to “Spock” their 5 dollar bills. It is a phenomenon that has been around for awhile and it works with both the new & old bills.

spock5.jpg

This group is to celebrate the Canadian cultural phenomenon, known to some as the “Spock five”. The origins of this mysterious tradition are shrouded in secrecy, although it is widely believed to be totally awesome.

Many years ago, some clever individual whos name has no doubt been forgotten in the annals of time noticed that Sir Wilfrid Laurier’s portrait on the Canadian five-dollar bill looked remarkably like a certain famous Vulcan. And thus the Spock five was born. With the advent of the new Canadian five-dollar bill, Laurier looks even more like Leonard Nimoy, ensuring the Spock five has a long and prosperous future.

DISCLAIMER: This group, and its creator, in no way endorse the actual act of Spocking fives (even though it’s awesome), as defacing money is illegal, and somewhere, someone in Canada might actually care, or something. Despite this disclaimer, you should all Spock every five dollar bill you get, and encourage everyone else to do the same (not an endorsement).

Puppetji

I am loving the concept of using humour to talk about spiritual concepts.

These Puppetji videos are great examples…

“what is the point to life?”

A classic from the late great Bill Hicks, who was quoted as calling himself “Chomsky with dick jokes.”
